Former caregiver convicted of assault could go free after Superior Court decision
YORK COUNTY — A former York County caregiver convicted of assaulting a man with down syndrome may be off the hook. The Pennsylvania Superior Court determined his trial rights were violated.

Student fatally shot by another student outside Pittsburgh school
PITTSBURGH (AP) — A student shot and killed another student early Wednesday outside a school in Pittsburgh, authorities said. The alleged shooter was soon captured after a foot chase.
The ages of the students involved were not immediately clear. According to the city school district’s website, Oliver Citywide Academy is a full-time special education center serving grades 3-12.

Trooper honored with award for inspirational recovery from Lewistown shootout
Pennsylvania State Police Troop G honored Lt. James Wagner Wednesday for his heroic actions last year on June 17 in Lewistown, when he confronted an armed individual who fired shots at patrol vehicles parked outside the Lewistown barracks.
Lt. Wagner was critically injured and Trooper Jacques Rougeau was killed by the gunman.
Lt. Wagner was presented with a newly commissioned service ribbon, known as the Lewistown Service Award, for his exemplary actions and sacrifice that day.

Pirates manager Shelton receives contract extension

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Manager Derek Shelton’s contract was extended by the Pittsburgh Pirates after the team’s 14-7 start its best since 1992.
Shelton’s contract was set to expire after this season. The Pirates announced the new deal Saturday but did not specify a length.
