LOS ANGELES (TND) — A Christian lifeguard in California is suing his local fire department after it allegedly threatened to dismiss him for refusing to display a Pride flag at his workplace, court documents show.
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in 2023 passed a resolution requiring all facilities operated by the county to display the 'Progress Pride Flag' during June. Capt. Jeffrey Little says he requested a religious exemption to this rule, which the county allegedly granted before rescinding two days later.

Man gave homeless woman $20 to watch granddaughter while he went to bar
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KMPH) — A man was arrested on Monday after deputies said he paid a homeless woman $20 to take his 7-year-old granddaughter to a nearby thrift store so he could go to a bar in Sacramento.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call around 7:45 p.m. with the caller reporting a man, later identified as 54-year-old Jason Warren, was asking for help because his granddaughter had been kidnapped for human trafficking.

One dead after head-on collision on Colonel Drake Highway
LOGAN TWP., Pa. (WJAC) — According to police, one person is dead following a head-on collision on Colonel Drake Highway near Ashville on Wednesday.
According to the Logan Township Police Department, they were dispatched to the scene about half a mile south of Skyline Dr. around 4:30 p.m.
According to authorities, the two-vehicle crash involved a Ford truck and a Dodge Grand Caravan. Police reported the truck was on fire and the driver was lifeflighted to Pittsubrgh with severe burns.

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Two keys, one Hummer.
Two senior students at Admiral Peary Area Vocational School won the chance to receive a 2006 Hummer H3.
Throughout the year, students are awarded and recognized with tickets for positive acts at school.
On Tuesday, Julie Birchall, of Northern Cambria, and Cameron Strait, of Penn Cambria, were each given a key.
The key that started the Hummer, won the Hummer.

Late night fire at NJ apartment complex claims the life of boy, 12; 6 others hurt
New Jersey — Authorities say an apartment fire in New Jersey has claimed the life of a 12-year-old and sent six others to the hospital.
Officials say the fire happened late Sunday night at the Fox Meadow Apartment Complex in Burlington County.
Upon arrival, authorities found heavy smoke and fire coming from the roof of the apartments.
Despite some residents going door-to-door alerting their neighbors to the danger, a 12-year-old boy died.

Rural communities in several states dealing with shortages
(TCS) — Pennsylvania struggles to get more housing built to relieve a statewide shortage.
For rural parts of the commonwealth, communities are in a position similar to rural towns across America.
An analysis of housing in rural Illinois shows that problems are common, but solutions are as rare as a cheap apartment.
“The insufficient supply of housing partially explains why housing costs are one of the key factors driving inflation,” noted Mark White, a professor in the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
