Falls Creek continues 12 year fight with EPA over Jackson China site

Falls Creek, PA — The Falls Creek Borough Council has been fighting with the EPA for 12 years to redevelop the Jackson Site and now they're saying enough is enough. The Jackson Ceramix Site in Falls Creek used to manufacture and paint china from 1917-1985 until it went up in flames. Johnstown school raising money to build special needs playground

RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WJAC) — A school in Cambria County is raising money to build a special needs playground for the community to use. Officials at Pressley Ridge Day School Johnstown say there's no other playground to meet the needs of many kids in the area and they want to change that. Man acquitted of all charges in 2019 slaying in park

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A man has been acquitted of all charges in the shooting death of the son of a high-ranking police official during a brawl at a south Philadelphia park three years ago. A Common Pleas Court jury on Wednesday acquitted 22-year-old Tyquan Atkinson of murder, criminal conspiracy and weapons offenses in the March 2019 death of 20-year-old Nicholas Flacco at FDR park. Norfolk Southern says work will be transferred to Altoona after Roanoke closure

ALTOONA, PA. (WJAC) — Norfolk Southern announced the closure of its Roanoke Distribution Center Tuesday and said work and positions will be transferred to the Juniata Locomotive shop in Altoona. Company officials said the announcement comes as Norfolk Southern continues to reduce its locomotive fleets, thus reducing the amount of locomotive maintenance and repair. The company could no longer support two heavy-repair locomotive facilities and decided that the most appropriate location for its major locomotive facility would be the shop in Altoona, NBC affiliate WSLS reports. Dubois community, Pittsburgh Pirates gather to open field for special needs youth

DUBOIS – The Dubois community came together today for a special ribbon cutting ceremony for the Rose and Dennis Heindl Memorial Field. The field is designed for kids with special needs. The stadium includes turf, solid squares for bases and is wheel chair accessible. The field so special that it brought tears to some people’s eyes. “This just makes his day, he was so excited. Johnstown moves closer to adopting new city banner

Local sportsmen club hosts annual winter shooting challenge

JOHNSTOWN, Pa (WJAC) — A shooting range in Johnstown transformed into the North Pole on Saturday afternoon as people took their shot at shooting a polar bear target. The Daisytown Sportsmen Club hosted their 19th annual Polar Bear Shoot. For $1 a shot, people took their chance at hitting a polar bear target the club set up at their gun range. Miss PA 2023 helps judge annual Groundhog Day talent show

Punxsutawney, PA (WJAC) — Festivities kicked off Thursday in Punxsutawney leading up to Groundhog Day. On Thursday, the Gobbler's Knob talent competition was held at the community center in town. This year's competition featured eleven contestants from Jefferson County, and from as far away as Australia. Miss Pennsylvania 2023 -- Miranda Moore -- is one of the guest judges for the competition.
