Nursing facility fires 3 workers charged with abusing patients

BROOKVILLE - Three people are facing charges in Jefferson County after they were accused of abusing elderly patients at a nursing facility. Haley Shirey, 20, of Strattenville, and Hannah Shirey, 20, of Strattenville, are facing multiple charges including strangulation, neglect of a care-dependent person, recklessly endangering another person, simple assault and harassment. Rebekah Call, 20, of Strattenville, is facing conspiracy to commit those charges. Bedford chef creates giant Gingerbread Village at Omni Bedford Springs Resort

Bedford County, PA (WJAC) — A massive gingerbread village just inside the Omni Bedford Springs Resort isn't meant for eating, just enjoying. The resort's pastry chef was challenged to outdo the house he made last year, and he did just that with a Christmas wonderland. The full display is 34 feet wide and 12 feet tall. Forty-five students at the Bedford County Technical Center built the framework. He and his staff then went to work adding the 6,800 bricks made from 240 pounds of gingerbread dough, 60 pounds of royal icing, 40 pounds of marshmallow, 360 chocolate bars, 100 York peppermint patties and 1,400 peppermints. Somerset Co., PA (WJAC) — The trial for suspended Somerset County District Attorney Jeff Thomas, who is accused of sexual assault, is underway. DAY 7 (VERDICT):After nearly three hours of deliberating, the jury has returned the verdict in the trial of suspended Somerset County District Attorney Jeff Thomas. Thomas has been found not guilty on the most serious charges he faced, including sexual assault and aggravated indecent assault. The jury did find Thomas guilty of the other six charges he faced, which include strangulation (in conjunction with sexual violence), criminal trespass, unlawful restraint, indecent assault without consent, false imprisonment, and one count of simple assault. PIAA Wrestling State Championships

HERSHEY, PA (WJAC) - Three local wrestlers left the Giant Center as state champions. In 2A, Forest Hill's Jackson Arrington won his 3rd PIAA Individual Wrestling State Championship on the mats of 152 lbs. In 3A, Central Mountain's Dalton Perry won gold at at 126 lbs. and State College's Pierson Manville won his first state title at 138 lbs. Over 20 wrestlers left with medals in both 2A and 3A. Walmart to eliminate 24-hour operations at 100 stores

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. — Update: Walmart could not confirm what stores will be affected by this change. However locally, Punxsutawney Walmart says it will be closing from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. starting in April. The Walmart in Everett will also be affected by this change. Those not affected include the Walmart in Benner Pike Shops in Centre County plus locations in Ebensburg and Altoona.
