BOALSBURG – A cross-country runner from St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy, in Boalsburg, received a prestigious award.
Julia Cusatis was named the most inspiring Pennsylvania cross-country athlete.
The award was presented by professional runner Neely Spence Gracey, who presented Cusatis with a bronze sneaker.
The high school junior garnered the award for her positive attitude and her determination for continually defying the odds. She has juvenile arthritis.
“I’m pretty stubborn, so I try to just act like nothing is wrong and just shove it under the table,” said Cusatis.

Authorities ID gunman who opened fire on Pittsburgh police during eviction notice
2nd UPDATE |Pittsburgh — A suspect is dead after a shootout with seven deputies in a Pittsburgh neighborhood Wednesday afternoon.
Officials say that William Hardison Sr. was pronounced dead just after 5 p.m., nearly seven hours after an intense gun battle started while deputies were serving a court ordered eviction notice.
Witnesses say they heard hundreds of gunshots.
One deputy was injured while trying to take cover while the suspect was shooting.

Clearfield man accused of exchanging nude photos with multiple teen girls
Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities with the Lawrence Township Police Department say a Clearfield man is facing charges after he allegedly exchanged nude photographs with multiple teenage girls.
Police say they received a report that 20-year-old Colton Suhoney was contacting the 14-year-old girls, via Snapchat, and "asking them to hang out and was being flirtatious."
Upon further investigation, police learned that Suhoney had sent nude photos to the girls, and had also requested nude photos from them.

Four local wrestlers hope for a spot in the 2024 Olympics
Next week, four high schoolers will wrestle in a tournament that gives them the opportunity to qualify for the upcoming summer Olympics.
Last week, some of those high school wrestlers going to the tournament didn't realize they were able to compete, since most qualifiers required the wrestlers to be 18 or older, but with this tournament, open those born in 2006, these competitors couldn't say no.

Man flown from Clearfield fire scene, fire department says
Clearfield Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities with the Clearfield Fire Department say a man was hospitalized Tuesday following a house fire in Clearfield Borough.
Officials say the blaze broke out at a home along West Front Street, around 11:30 a.m., and was called in by a local sheriff's deputy.
Investigators say crews arrived on scene and observed smoke and flames coming from the home.
Fire officials say crews were able to extinguish the flames quickly but a male resident was transported to UPMC Mercy for treatment of injuries sustained in the blaze.

Penguins re-sign forward Rickard Rakell to 6-year extension
PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Penguins announced late Monday that they have re-signed forward Rickard Rakell to a six-year contract extension, with an average annual value of $5 million per year.

Colorado man sentenced to max of 6 years in sexual assaults of two girls in Centre Co.
Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — A Colorado man accused of sexually assaulting two young girls in Centre County was sentenced Friday, according to Centre County District Attorney Bernie Cantorna.
Authorities say Desmond Boyer, now age 37, was sentenced to serve 3 to 6 years in state prison, followed by three years of consecutive probation, and must register as a lifetime sex offender.
Earlier this year, Boyer pleaded no contest to three counts of indecent assault and five counts of aggravated indecent assault, court dockets show, and all other charges were dropped.

Family of 7 displaced after fire destroys Bedford County home
BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Officials say a family of seven is without a home after flames ripped through a house in Bedford County Tuesday afternoon.
The fire was reported on the 300 block of Mosquito Hollow Road just before 12:30 p.m.
According to Bedford County dispatchers, crews from three counties were called to help battle the flames.
Authorities say there were people home when the fire started, but everyone made it out unharmed.
